Are YOUR
Stress Levels Higher Than You Think?
|
The following
stress test
was developed by researchers at Cambridge University. It is
the final picture from a series of stress determinants used to test
and
predict the amount of stress a subject accrues in a short space of
time.
Before we get
into the stress test, it's important to understand what causes
stress. Sometimes we experience a major trauma, but more often
than not, the daily hassles and tribulations of life build up over
time. We all come into conflict
with family, friends and colleagues. These issues are part and
parcel of life.
But more often
than not, stress is caused by our failure to fulfil a certain
expectation -- an expectation that someone else has of us, or an
expectation that we have of ourselves that we are either unwilling
or unable to fulfil.
In a moment,
I'm going to show you a picture of a potato...
Research has shown
that the more incongruous attributes you perceive in the image,
the higher, your underlying stress level. This is due to the intensification of concentrational and recognition influences associated with raised
levels of cortisol and hormones linked with the stress response..
Do not try to
influence your perception of the image, rather just make note of
what comes to mind naturally. Your first impression matters
the most. Here comes the stress test...
